Baltimore, Maryland, May 9-12, 2004

The Use of Humor, Metaphor, Psychology, and Sheer Zaniness to Defuse Volatile Situations, Lower Your Blood Pressure, and Support Stress Management in Technical Communication:
Real-World Applications of M4A4Z4 Theory

Dan Voss
Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control

Session Description: This workshop was designed to help participants "think outside the box" when it comes to using creative humor as a de-stressor in the often deadline-driven, pressure-filled world of technical communication, while also taking care to be mindful of the inherent risks involved with this strategy and how to mitigate them.

Notes are not available from this session because I was the presenter. However, an abstract describing the workshop, instructions for the workshop activity, and the paper from the Proceedings are available at the conference materials web site.
