Annual Employment Panel – STC Florida Chapter Meeting

We have invited a panel of hiring managers and professionals who interact with Technical Communicators on a daily basis for some moderated discussion plus audience Q&A. 

We are thrilled to welcome:

This is a perfect chance to ask some experts your burning questions about interviewing, resumes, career advice, mentoring, work samples/portfolios, and more! I highly recommend joining us for this one if you are able.

Come prepared with your questions and hear stories from the ground floor of the hiring process. This panel will not only benefit early-career technical communicators but those with experience as well. It’s always a good idea to sharpen your interviewing skills, you never know what the future holds. The panelists’ views are their own and do not necessarily represent those of their employers. Panelist Bios

Don Adams

Assistant Program Manager/Senior Technical Lead at JHT Incorporated

 

Don Adams has been at JHT for 16 years and now is working on Army contracts with PM Mission Command and an L3Harris radio contract through PM Tactical radios. He has been working as a Technical Writer/Subject Matter Expert (SME) since joining JHT. Recent duties include training new writers, interviewing applicants, and managing the personnel assigned to the multiple programs. He was a Certified Instructor during his USAF career, providing individual and team-based training for ICBM missiles at F.E. Warren AFB in Cheyenne, WY. Currently living in Rockledge, Florida.

Christine Christensen

Documentation Manager at Cityworks, a Trimble Company

 

Christine Christensen is the Documentation Manager at Cityworks, the leading provider of GIS-centric asset management and permitting software solutions for local government agencies and utilities. She has worked in the tech comm field for ten years and has a master’s degree in technical communication from Minnesota State University, Mankato, and a bachelor’s degree in English from Utah State University. She is a Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC) and currently serves as the membership manager for the STC Rochester chapter. She lives near Salt Lake City, Utah, with her husband and two dogs.

Patrick Green

Technical Documentation Manager at Lockheed Martin

 

Patrick Green is a Lockheed Martin (LM) Technical Publications Manager who works at the Rotary and Mission Systems (RMS) Training and Logistics Solutions (TLS) facility to provide high-quality technical publications for the products developed at this site.  Patrick moved to Orlando in 2014 when he started as the Technical Publications Manager and now oversees a team of 14 writers who develop a variety of publications.  Before this, he worked at the LM RMS facility in Syracuse, NY as a Logistics Project Manager where he was responsible for all logistics products for various ground-based radar systems. In addition to these two positions, Patrick has been a technical writer and customer trainer while at LM.  Patrick is also a retired Marine with over 21 years of service.  Patrick is a graduate from Columbia College and holds a BS in Business Administration and Human Resource Management.

Rhyne Armstrong

Manager, Technical Writers at Jamf

 

Rhyne Armstrong is the manager of technical writers at Jamf and a senior member of STC. He has over twenty years of experience in the technical communication field, often moving from the core discipline of technical writing to the outlying roles of corporate communication, product marketing, and user experience design.

Stephanie Young

Project Engineering Manager at Lockheed Martin – Missiles and Fire Control

 

Stephanie Young has been a technical communicator for 19 years. She graduated from UCF in 2003 with an English—Creative Writing BA and a minor in Studio Art. She started right out of college at Lockheed Martin on Lake Underhill as an illustrator. She is a certified Army instructor who has routinely performed training for soldiers and reservists, and she is CMPIC and NDIA certified in Configuration Management. Stephanie has also been a program manager in charge of an Army contract for technical publications and training, and she worked in configuration management for AT&T Government Solutions. Currently, she manages a team of 15 people, performing technical writing (on over 27 contracts) and Configuration Management (127 contracts) for the Air Force and government customers.
