Dungeons and Dragons: Improving your Tech Comm Skills through Gaming
May 25, 2023 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm EDT
Are you a technical communicator who also loves Dungeons and Dragons? Or are you just looking for a way to level up your communication and collaboration skills in a fun and creative way? Join us on May 25 from 6:30-8:30 pm EDT as we show you how the skills you hone in tabletop role-playing games can help you in your career! Discover the surprising overlap between tabletop roleplaying games and technical communication, and learn how skills such as story development, character creation, and world-building can help you excel in your professional life.
The skills Technical Communicators use in their profession make them excellent Dungeons and Dragons players, as well as game runners (a.k.a “Dungeon Masters”). From writing to collaboration, the core skills that lead to success on the job can be developed and honed in this fun, fantasy setting. While fighting evil monsters as an Elven fighter might not seem to relate to working in Information Technology, both challenges require thoughtful communication, working with a team, doing research, and applying critical thinking skills.
