Writing for Everyone: Inclusive Technical Communication
As technical communicators, the documentation we create needs to incorporate a wide range of viewpoints and perspectives, promoting responsiveness and engagement with our message. By embracing inclusive communication, we make our products and services more accessible to everyone. It’s our responsibility to ensure we are including people regardless of culture, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, socioeconomic status, or appearance.
On January 21, we will be hosting a panel of mini-presentations covering different aspects of inclusive communication. Below are a few topics we hope to share:
- Communicating across Gender identity and using pronouns (Julia Southwick)
- Writing for Neurodiversity
- Checking your privilege and assumptions (Bethany Aguad)
- Embracing cultural diversity
- Avoiding Ableism for Accessible documentation
Alongside the program, we are working on an article for MtM full of resources for technical communicators to use to ensure their communication is inclusive.
We are looking for people with personal stories and experience with inclusive communication to join our upcoming panel on the evening of Thursday, January 21. Please click here to volunteer by Monday, January 11, if you are interested in sharing your knowledge and perspective.
The presentation will be followed by a Q&A.
